AADHAVAN movie review !!!!!!!!

Starring: Suriya, Nayanthara, Ramesh Kanna, Vadivelu.
Direction: K.S.Ravikumar
Music: Harris Jayaraj
Production: Red Giant Movies
The biggest of this festival season is here and it comes with great expectations. Suriya is targeting a hat trick of hits while KSR is all set to follow up the Dasavatharam phenomenon with another big grosser. Have no doubts when you enter theaters, this is a trademark KS Ravikumar product, no holds barred entertainment with elements for just about everyone in the family. But, it does also come with its share of pitfalls and flaws.

A professional assassin, sharp shooter, jet setter, high flyer – that’s how Aadhavan (Suriya) is introduced to the audience. The customary introduction song does not actually set a racy tempo, but is still foot tapping. He never misses his aim and that brings him a big assignment, one that promises crores. A judge all set to report his findings on a sensational case is the target and Aadhavan is ready to shoot. The bullet misses, the judge survives, Aadhavan fails. With crores and a huge reputation to protect, Aadhavan vows to complete the unfinished job. How, when, where? Watch Aadhavan to find out.

The basic premise of an assassin and the target must lead you to think of a suspense filled, tense and intense plot. But what you get in the first half is exactly the opposite .

You are introduced to a large joint family, Saroja Devi (on screen after 12 years) is the eldest member and Nayanthara as Thara is her granddaughter. Vadivelu is the domestic help and at the helm is the Late Murali who wields the whip and a stentorian tone. Suriya joins the mix and you are in for a hilarious one and a half hours. Trust KSR the script writer to blend and infuse comedy into any story, he does it with finesse here and executes it to near perfection as a director. Ramesh Khanna joins in later to add to the humor quotient. While the main plot does keep moving throughout the first half, it is only close to the interval that it takes a decisive twist. Post interval you are told the details of an unknown identity, a flashback narrates a few family relations and the reasons for an old wound, before we cut back to present to resume the main plot. By now, the pace has slackened a bit. A little bit of romance is slipped in, but it has been kept in check which helps the main plot maintain its course. The last half an hour is perhaps the weakest portion of the movie. Even though the events unfold at a pretty steady pace it fails to engage the viewer. The climax, in an isolated yard with a crane, fully filled petrol tank and a pond nearby are typically Kollywood masala fare. It definitely could have been better.

In the bid for uninhibited entertainment, logic and reason have taken a beating at places. Though that is not uncommon in cinema, those instances do leave you searching for explanations. The most prominent is the scene where Aadhavan opens up about his identity to Thara- How Madhavan became Aadhavan? Later, when it is opened in front of the whole family, everyone seems to swallow whatever has been said without even a shadow of doubt. But, KSR has managed to a large extent to cover up for the lack of clarity at places with his racy direction. In fact, you might find yourself asking questions about the logic behind many incidents well after you have left the theater, not while you are still watching the film. Other dampeners include the placement of songs, especially in the first half. The ‘Dekho Dekho’ number seems unnecessary and extraneous to the script. ‘Yaeno Panithulli’ and ‘Hasili Fisili’ captivate with the visuals and exotic locations.

Technically, Aadhavan has got few things to boast about, presenting Suriya as a 4 feet something tall 10 year old boy must be a first in Tamil cinema. Though one can clearly make out that it is graphic patchwork at quite a few instances, overall it is a job very neatly done, great effort. Camerawork by R Ganesh is adequate. It is only in the above mentioned songs that he gets to translate a rich feel onto screen. Harris Jeyaraj’s music which is already a hit could have been placed and used better, the songs would have served as a bigger strength to the film that way.

Suriya walks through a role that does not challenge him much. The effort and risks taken in the fight sequences, especially the first chase through Kolkata where he can be seen jumping over rooftops etc.., tell a lot about commitment. He looks stylish, angry, cunning and innocent while bringing out different shades of the character that he portrays; a well crafted performance. Nayanthara escapes the glamour trap after a long time and looks fresh. Saroja Devi brings in some old world charm to the proceedings while Murali is authoritative in what is sadly his last film. Sayaji Shinde, Rahul Dev, Riyaz Khan and others do a fairly neat job. Anandh Babu belies the years to shake a leg in the opening song and passes off quite well in a limited but significant role. Vadivelu brings the house down with his comic act. He breathes life into the proceedings every time he is on screen and his antics keep the first half brimming with positive humor; his character adds to the overall Aadhavan experience.

On the whole, Aadhavan is trademark KSR cinema. It has action, comedy, sentiment, romance, music and masala, not to forget his special appearance at the end. There are flaws, missing pieces, loose ends and a stereotyped climax that might put you off, but commercial cinema is always prone to such errors. If you are not a stickler for logic or substance, there are quite a few positives to sit back and enjoy.

Verdict: Carefree commercial – Conditions apply

EXCLUSIVE-- KANDHASAMY Movie review....

KANDHASAMY Movie review....

Cast: Vikram, Shreya, Vadivelu, Prabhu, Ashish Vidhyarthy, Alex, Susi Ganesan, Krishna
Camera: NK Ekambaram
Music: Devi Sri Prasad
Direction: Susi Ganesan
Producer: Kalaipuli S Thanu
PRO: Diamond Babu

Kandhasamy is a commercial masala movie but comes with the Midas touch of master craftsmen like Susi Ganesan and Vikram. Also the film has been released at the right season when the audiences are tired of a series of crap movies. The Vikram-Thanu-Susi Ganesan combination is to become the biggest winner of this season with a perfect, hi-styled commercial film with an evergreen theme i.e., the emergence of superhero against the corruption in the system!

At the same time, we are sure that the film is not an usual superhero movie. Undoubtedly it is one of the finest imaginations of a creator like Susi Ganesan with the help of a good producer like Thanu. Really Thanu deserves this victory, as a producer who is passionate about Tamil cinema.

Buzz up!
The film opens with scenes which show the poor people praying at a Murugan Temple at the outskirts of Chennai. They simply send their prayers to Kandhasamy, another Tamil name of Lord Muruga in the temple through a letter and tie it to a tree (known as petition tree) in front of the temple. After few minutes, our Kandhasamy (also the name of our hero Vikram) collects the letters and helps them according to their needs. Mostly people request financial help from God!

After a few incidents Kandasamy becomes the local god for the prople. His Robinhood style of helping the poor soon catches the attention of the police. The local DIG of Police (Prabhu) suspects that there is something unnatural about it and starts his investigations. Meanwhile, our hero has the other face as a strict, powerful and intelligent CBI officer Kandhasamy! He is on a mission to find out black money and illegal wealth of the rich and corrupt Indians stashed in foreign banks, which he believes is responsible for all the crime in our society.

Soon he clashes with Pallur Paramajyoti Ponnusamy (Ashish Vidyarti), the man with a golden tooth and greedy heart. Kandhasamy conducts a raid in his palatial bungalow and finds unaccounted cash and documents of various foreign deals including his Mexican connections worth over Rs 1000 crore!

Ashish Vidyarthy is devastated after the raid and his only daughter Subbalakshmi (Shreya Saran) swears revenge and pretends to fall in love with Kandhasamy. At a stage it gets exposed that both the Kandhasamys are the same. But a senior official in the CBI protects Kandhasamy in this critical situation. What makes Kandhasamy to do all these Robinhood activities? Why does this senior officer protects him? Will the DIG succeed in proving that Kandhasamy is no God? For all these answers see the movie!

Though the story is looks like a mixture of Anniyan and Sivaji - The Boss, Susi Ganesan succeeds in providing a 3.15 minutes roller coaster entertaiment with all the needy ingredients without any questions even in some illogical moments. The introduction scene of the hero is outstanding. The Mexican portion is stunning. And technically this film is another milestone in Tamil cinema.

As per the limitations of the movie the length is definitely not a plus point. Susi must reconsider the length of a few portions particularly the scenes involving the villains.

Vikram rocks as a CBI officer Kandhasamy and as a local Robinhood. He has given a new dimension to the characters he play in the film and has steered it to the winning post. Particularly, his appearance with a rooster head and different costume steals the show. The highlight is Kandhasamy dressed as a woman (like Aishwarya Rai). The presence of Charly and Mayilsamy make the scene very hilarious.

Certainly, Kandhasamy is another feather in the golden cap of this fantastic actor. Ace comedian Vadivelu rocks in the role as Thenkakadi Thenappan. Surely he is a major plus point for this magnum opus. Prabhu fits well in the role of an investigating officer. Susi Ganesan also appears in a cameo role.

Shreya, as a heroine has done her role well. Her stylish look and impeccable professional approach makes her role close to the viewers heart. Devi Sri Prasad's music is another pleasing element in the film. All the songs have come out well and the outstanding camera work of NK Ekambaram makes the film as a high class entertainment.

Verdict: Visual extravaganza!

UPCOMING MOVIES.... Countdown

Kandein Kadhalai

This is going to be interesting. Tamil cinema does not generally remake Hindi movies, but we have a case here. Jab We Met was a super hit, a romantic ride enjoyed by almost everyone. Shahid Kapoor was appreciated and Kareena Kapoor was loved. Can Bharat and Tamanna recreate the magic in Tamil and more importantly, can Kannan keep up the good work that he started with Jayam Kondaan? Romance is a universal language and, if told well, it will be understood by everyone. Let's wait and watch.

Madharasa Pattinam

Arya is going places, so is director Vijay. Which other young actor- director combination would get such a wonderful opportunity which such immense scope and also a big budget that comes along with it. Set in the Madras of 1940s, it will be a love story with a difference and if the stills are anything to go by, there should also be a lot of action. Definitely a movie that is eagerly awaited. The Madras of 1940s will be worth a watch.

Idhu Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam

Kollywood seems to have a lucky charm when it comes to brother duos. The Jeyam Raja and Ravi duo and the Selvaraghavan-Dhanush duo have consistently delivered hits and so if any one of these duos announces a project, it is definitely a movie that is eagerly awaited. After the huge success of Kadhal Kondaen and Pudhupettai which was a movie par excellence, Dhanush and Selvaraghavan are back with Idhu Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam. It’s been a long time since its announcement but Aayirathil Oruvan is still pending which makes the movie’s immediate future a bit uncertain.

Aadukalam

Dhanush is back with Polladhavan Vettrimaran, the combination is expected to rock. The setting is different from the regular Dhanush movies, it is Madurai. The story is turbulent, Dhanush has undergone rigorous training to get the right body language and the perfect accent and most importantly, Trisha is paired with Dhanush for the first time

Goa

The Chennai 28 and Saroja team is back, this time with a theme that looks radically different from the regular Kollywood fare and set on the laid back and idyllic shores of Goa. All the elements of a regular Venkat Prabhu film will be surely present, get ready for another youth festival. Jessica Alba was supposed to play a role, but she backed off. So, who’s replacing her?

Vettaikaran

Ilaiya Thalapthi is Vettaikaran. All Vijay starrers generate huge expectations, this one is no different and the fans are already excited. Anushka will be back on the Tamil screen after Arundhathee, for the first time with Vijay. To add to all this are reports that Vijay has gone in for a makeover; that is sure something to watch out for. One schedule has already been completed; the second is on in Chennai.

Asal

Ajith coming back with old friend Saran after Attagasam, the handlebar sideburns; all the makings of an exciting entertainer. The combination has not failed before and fans trust the duo a lot. The classy Sameera Reddy for the first time opposite Ultimate Star. It should be stylish, power packed and entertaining.

Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya

Gautham Menon really took us by surprise when he announced Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya, we thought he was busy elsewhere, so what happened to Chennaiyil Oru Mazhaikkalam? VTV was a bolt from the blue, but a pleasant one. It will be interesting to see how one among the trend setting directors of Kollywood will be handling a flamboyant youth star. If reports are right, a change in looks and a played down style are in order. The Silambarasan-Trisha combination too will be good to watch. Even before the announcement of the movie sunk in properly news of shooting progressing at various locations keeps coming in. Fast food cinema, is it?

Aadhavan

K.S. Ravikumar joins with Suriya. Here is one director who has worked with almost all top stars of Bollywood and one actor who has been under almost all top directors, the combination is hot. True to his rapid action image, KSR has completed 50% of the shooting in a jiffy. Music by Harris Jayaraj will be a highlight, so will be Nayanthara’s first heroine role opposite Suriya.

AADHAVAN Music Review ....

Hasili Fisiliyae---
Vocals: Karthik, Harini.
Lyrics: Pa.Vijay

A love duet that moves along on an attractively unhurried rhythm and looks as if based on the Karaharapriya scale. Karthik and Harini bring richness to the rendition. There is a generous amount of rap in between, composed and sung by Dr.Burn and Maya. The ‘sa ni sa’ and ‘ni sa ni sa’ notes coming often sound gentle. This song is supposed to have been shot in South Africa.

Yeno Yeno Panithuli---
Vocals: Shail Hada, Sudha Raghunadhan, Andrea.
Lyrics: Thamarai

This soft ‘Pop’ feel number has beats similar to the first song. Built on the Natabairavi scale, the song sustains our interest mainly through its flowing guitar bits and the cute sax bit that goes’ pa ma ga maa ga ri ri sa’ and winds up at the top, going ‘ga ma pa dha ni sa---‘.Sudha’s voice contrasts sweetly with Andrea. This number too is supposed to have been shot in Iceland (wow!)

Damakku Damakku---
Vocals: Benny Dayal.
Lyrics: Na.Muthukumar

A couple of ‘Ayan’ numbers cross your mind as you listen to this, but anyway this song has charming calypso-like rhythms and some soothing harmonica notes that add up to a possible hit. And Benny’s infectious vocals deserve mention. The song has a kind of rakish appeal.

Vaarayo Vaarayo---
Vocals: Unnikrishnan, Chinmayee, Mega.
Lyrics: Kabilan
The seductive touches in this flowing love duet come mainly from the lovely guitars, sax that goes lazily’ sa ri ga maa—ga ri ga saa---‘and so on, and the soft piano notes. Plus of course the melodious voice of Unni who breezes through the song. Chinmayee keeps good pace with him and Mega adds lovely operatic touches with her smooth voice that simply swirls around! Is that the cello that we hear in the second interlude before Mega and towards the end? So alluring! The trite lyrics alone disappoint you.

Dekho Dekho---
Vocals: Suvisuresh, Sandhya, Sricharan( Rap voice & lyrics).
Lyrics: Vaali
A modern twist to the ‘Vanjikkottai Vaaliban’ scenario? This song seems to portray a tussle on stage between a very feminine lady and a hip modern dame, going by the lyrics. Very interesting rhythm patterns we have here. Notice how subtly the music veers towards soft subtlety when the singer goes ‘menmai kalandhal’ and ‘tatthi kudhicchu’ where lovely sitar notes roll through the swaras! Do we hear the gottu vadhyam when the lady sings ’ey, naughty auntie’? Can’t be sure, but a lively touch there! This number is supposed to have the entire cast in it!

Maasi Maasi---
Vocals: Mano, Mega.
Lyrics: Vaali

The percussion sounds and other minute instrumental sounds have been captured with such perfection in this song. That alone makes it worthwhile to listen to. The raga (appears to be Vakulabaranam based) and the tune is nothing new. One feels nostalgic listening to Mano. Mega is a delight.

Verdict:

There is a lot of technical finesse to this album, as is wont with Harris Jayaraj. What surprises us here is the banality of the lyrics! One would have expected better lyrics from all these songwriters! Conscious usage of various instruments adds its own appeal to any album. Which is what we see here.

KANDEN KADHALAI Music Review.......

Melody is its USP

Kanden Kadhalai, a remake of Hindi hit Jab We Met, has been making enough news. The movie directed by Kannan features Bharath and Tamannah in lead roles. Vidyasagar has scored music for the movie.

Since all the songs in Jab We Met were big hits, expectations are high to check out what Vidyasagar has done. But after listening to songs, one is convinced of the music composer’s creative abilities. The songs are strikingly different from Jab We Met and also very catchy.

Vidyasagar has ensured that his music stays different. Not just unique instrumentation, but a good choice of singers and perfect harmony is the hallmark of the album. Lyrics by Yugabharathi and Na Muthukumar add more strength to the numbers.

1. Venpanju - Listen here

Singer: Udit Narayanan, Karthik

The song by Yugabharathi is no doubt a catchy one, which speaks about a youth’s love and his narration of his darling. The song has splendid beats with Udit Narayanan and Karthik oozing with right energy. The interludes are strikingly different.

2. Suthudhu - Listen here

Singer: Hariharan

The song by Na Muthukumar has everything in it to click with the masses. Hariharan’s sweet candy vocal with splendid use of flute is a pleasure to listen to. Soon peppy village beats catch up with the song. Supposedly a family number, it is different and interesting.

3. Naan Mozhi - Listen here

Singer: Suresh Wadkar

A song more in the form of Ghazal, it is rendered by Suresh Wadkar. His mesmerising rendition of the number combined with a wide range of instruments (however with a choosy usage) makes it a one to cherish.

4. Kattru Pudhithai - Listen here

Singer: Rahul Nambiar

Seemingly the opening song of the movie, the song begins on a soft tone. Rahul Nambiar’s soft voice to mild beats sounds pleasant. He shifts pace as it progresses. Vidyasagar’s penchant for melody is evident with this song.

5. Ododi Poren - Listen here

Singer: Lavanya, Rashmi Vijayan

Penned by Yugabharathi, it is the Tamil version of the song ‘Yeh Ishq Hai’ in Jab We Met. The song aims at enhancing the characterisation of Tamannah, who performs role of a lively girl. The song is a wild celebration of a girl, who loves to freak out and never worry about anything in life.

6. Oru Naal Iravil - Listen here

Singer: Tippu, Benny Dayal

Heared Mauja Hi Mauja? The peppy number of Jab We Met, topped the audio charts. Its Tamil equivalent is Oru Naal Iravil too is equally brisky and peppy. Rendered by Benny Dayal and Tippu, the number is oozing with energy all through.

Listen to Kanden Kadhalai audio, there is no doubt that you would fall in love with it.

EERAM Music Review

Thaman, one of the boys in director Shankar's ‘Boys’, recently unearthed one more talent in him - music. His songs in ‘Sinthanai Sei’ was a huge hit among youngsters. Now he is back with bang scoring music for his mentor's production venture – ‘Eeram’. Directed by Arivazhagan, ‘Eeram’ has music that is quite appropriate to its title. It's soft, simple and splendid. It has three tracks and a theme music, which is strikingly different from the run of the mill kind of stuff.

1. Mazhaiye Mazhaiye - Listen here

Singer: Ranjith

It is a superb and soft song quietly with apparent inspirations from Harris Jeyaraj. With less instrumentation and orchestration and more thrust on voice, the song is like a sugar candy - soft and sweet. Ranjith sings it with utmost ease and his voice sticks to our hearts instantly. Viveka's lyrics worth a mention.

2. Tharai Erangiya - Listen here

Singer: Suchitra

The team of Thaman, Viveka and Suchitra delivers a magic in the song. The number provides a unique feel to listeners - a feel of drenching in the rain. The rhythm and orchestration is the USP of the song.

3. Saaral En - Listen here

Singer: Ranjith

Saaral En is Thaman's masterpiece in the album. Amazing to listen to, the song gets its life thanks to Ranjith's voice and beautifully harmony by Thaman.

4. Theme of Eeram - Listen here

An impressive assortment of sounds. Thaman's choice of instruments to the wonderful rendition by the chorus makes it work. Hope Arivazhagan picturise it more beautiful.

The young Thaman has announced loud that he has in him the fire to deliver. ‘Eeram’ is a sample for many things to arrive from the youngster.

Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru Music Review .....

Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru Music Review

Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru - Manisharma’s magic works

Manisharma needs no introduction. The man with a Midas touch is a popular name for his brisk music in both Tamil and Telugu film industries. His latest offering T4 is a delight to listen to. It has catchy and groovy music sure to woo youngsters.

The movie is produced by Real Image and Sathyam Cinemas and directed by debutante Nandhini JS.

Manisharma has used a young brigade of singers and the list includes Rahul Nambiyar, Janani, Naveen, Karthik, Hariharan and Saindhavi. All the five songs in the album are good and stick to heart instantly.

1. Doctor Maappilai - Listen here

Singer: Ranjith and Naveen

A happy beginning for the album. Ranjith and Naveen sing in a prankiest voice. With mild instrumentation and catchy chorus, the song is a delight to listen to. The highlight of the song is

Lalithanand’s catchy lyrics, which brims with youthfulness.

2. Athiri Puthiri - Listen here

Singer: Rahul Nambiyar and Janani

It is the song that is partially inspired by a Western tune and partially by Carnatic music. A fusion of both, the number has peppy beats with guitar accompanying it in right mix. Rahul Nambiyar and Janani have been given a free run by Manisharma. The lyrics by Lalithanand are about what a girl and a boy like and dislike.

3. Jilena Veesum - Listen here

Singer: Haricharan and Saindhavi

It is a soft melodious romantic duet. Manisharma has proved that he can come up with not just peppy numbers but also soft melodies. Haricharan and Saindhavi have delivered their best. The soft tune combined with less instrumentation works wonders. Lalithanand’s lyrics are okay.

4. Thiru Thiru Vizhiyae - Listen here

Singer: Karthik and Rita

An interesting tune that proceeds in varied pace. Manisharma has consciously opted for such a tune. Karthik oozes with energy and so is Rita. Yugabharathy’s lyrics are rendered in a perfect diction by Karthik.

5. T4 Theme Song - Listen here

Singer: Ranjith and Saindhavi

The pick of the album, which has a racy tune and perfect rhythm to accompany it. The chorus is set in an excellent manner by Manisharma. Lalithanand has come up with some really catchy lyrics.

All said, it is an album that is trendy and chic. Manisharma deserves a pat on his back for scoring music that would attract the youth.

AAYIRATHIL ORUVAN music review.....

The chemistry between Selvaraghavan and Yuvan Shankar Raja resulted in many chartbusters in the past. For the first time in his career, Selva teamed up with G V Prakash Kumar for ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’, and this chemical reaction too is a gift to the ears of music lovers.

The young music composer has given a blend of classical, modern and ancient stuff in the album. Prakash has mastered the musical instruments from the ancient centuries and has spelled a tremendous job.

The album comprises of 10 songs with new singers like Dhanush and his wife Aishwarya singing. Interestingly, Selva too has wielded the pen this time. It is a collection worth listening for Prakash's hardwork.

1. Oh Eesa

Singer: Karthik, Andrea Jeremiah

With best percussions and hard rock guitars on the roll, the song is smooth to listen to thanks to Karthik and Andrea’s sizzling voices. The lyrics are by Selva and Andrea. Prakash's orchestration adds to the beauty.

2. Maalai Neram

Singer: Andrea Jeremiah, G V Prakash Kumar

Guitar used in any form is pleasant to listen to. Much in the style of Illayaraja, the song begins on a soft tone with Prakash at the helm of affairs rendering the number in style, accompanied by Andrea. Mild beats and less instrumentation are the highlights of the song.

3. Un Mela Aasadhan

Singer: Dhanush, Aishwarya Dhanush and Andrea Jeremiah

Dhanush has crooned the number in the company of his wife Aishwarya and Andrea. It is a peppy song with folk-rap fusion in between. The orchestrations with best synthesizers work magic. The actor has rendered it with ease, while his better-half's voice sounds sweet.

4. The King Arrives

Singer: Neil Mukherji and Madras Augustin Choir

A fresh and scintillating stuff from Prakash. It gives a refreshing feel everytime you listen to it. The number has various instruments involved with splendid use of guitars and wonderful percussion.

5. Thai Thindra Mannae

Singer: Vijay Yesudas, Nithyashree Mahadevan and Shri Krishna

A splendid piece of soft music which has Telugu, Malayalam and Tamil lyrics in it. The singers have crooned with perfect modulation. With Vijay Yesudas and Nithyahsree giving their heart out, it is sure to mesmerise the listeners.

6. Permannae

Singer: Bombay Jayashree, P B Srinivas

The man who was synonymous to melodies in 1960s P B Srinivas is here to sing the song in the company of Bombay Jayashree. A beautifully orchestrated piece, the song strikes it rich thanks to the modulation of the singers. Appealing lyrics by Vairamuthu adds to the shine.

7. Celebration of Life

Singer: Flute Instrumentation by Naveen

A different sound from Prakash. Good usage of flute with strains of Punjabi Dandiya gives one an energetic feel. No doubt, you listen to it and you’ll love this number.

8. Thai Thindra Manne

Singer: Vijay Yesudas

Quite different from its earlier version, the song has Vijay Yesudas singing with more classical touch, reminding his dad's heydays. Vijay Yesudas modulates much more uniquely from the other number.

9. Indha Paadhai

Singer: GV Prakash Kumar

The song dwells more on movie's theme, penned by Selva himself. The mild beats and GV’s voice attracts you. It has loud music and catchy lyrics that would set the momentum in the movie.

10. Oh Eesa

Singer: Andrea Jeremiah, Karthik and Big Nikk

The remix version has peppy beats and rhythms rendered by Big Nikk. The song will go straight on to the disco floors.

On the whole, ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’ has songs that are strikingly different from others. Prakash has proved that has immense talent and he is sure to go places.

YAATHUMAAGI Music Review .....

Yathumagi Music Review

Yathumagi - Simple and soft

After the success of Subramaniapuram and Pasanga, comes music composer James Vasanthan with ‘Yathumagi’.

Supposedly a romantic entertainer, the movie with a poetic title promises a lot. Perhaps proving this, James Vasanthan had stated recently that he agreed for the project touched by its storyline.

With the likes of Vijay Yesudass, Benny Dayal, Chitra and Deepa Miriam singing, the album has lot to offer and the melody master in James Vasanthan comes to the fore.

1. Parthadhum - Listen here

Singer: Vijay Yesudass and Chitra

It is a catchy melody. Begins with a soft music, the interludes stick to our heart instantly. Rhythm is the highlight of the song. Hats off James Vasanthan.

KANTHASAMY music review.......

Kanthaswamy Music Review

Kanthaswamy - Vikram sizzles all the way

It can't get bigger than this. Kalaipuli S Thanu's ‘Kanthaswamy’, touted to be the big-budgeted movie in Tamil film industry, starring Vikram and Shriya in the lead roles and directed by Susi Ganesan, is getting ready for release. The movie has been shot in various exotic locales across the globe.

It dwells on a mass theme - the need for equal distribution of wealth among the people and narrow the gap between the rich and the poor. ‘Kanthaswamy’ has musical score by Devi Sri Prasad and interestingly 'Chiyaan' Vikram has sung half of the songs. Perhaps its after M K Thyagaraja Bhagavathar that a movie's hero has sung all songs himself. Peppy, racy and pulsating, the song in ‘Kanthaswamy’ are youthful. The pick of them being “Excuse Me Mr Kanthaswamy” and “Mambo Mamiya”.

1. Yem Peru Meenakumari

Singer: Malathy

Vibrant and high voltage song. Malathy, who has made a name for herself singing such brisk numbers, is at it again. A cocktail of racy beats and funny lyrics, the song is sure to catch the hearts of youths. An item-number, it is power-packed and glamorous.

2. Excuse Me

Singer: Vikram and Sucithra

It is a peppy dance number. Sure to make one shake their leg. Supposedly a romantic number, it is about a girl's desire for his lover boy. Vikram has brought the singer out of him well. His diction too is great. A good singing debut it is by him.

3. Kanthaswamy

Singer: Devi Sri Prasad

A remix that is rapid like bullets fired from a machine gun. The song rendered by Devi Sri Prasad himself has enough elements to make one tap their foot. The beats in the interludes deserve a special mention.

4. Mambo Mamiya

Singer: Vikram and Rita

The pick of the album. It is loud and oozes with pace. The open-throated voice of Vikram compliments that of Rita well. However shades of “Kannum Kannum Nokia” from ‘Anniyan’ cannot be ruled out. The good use of electric guitar and percussion gives a lift to the song.

5. Allegro

Singer: Rita

A refreshing voice it is from Rita. It is a fast number which has everything in it to appease music-lovers. The rhythm and beats makes it an interesting one to listen to. The foot-tapping number is a delight to listen to.

6. Idhellam Dupe

Singer: Vikram

Vikram has rendered the song that begins like a rap. The catchy lyric by Viveka is its major strength. He sings the song in one breath. Vikram's magnetic voice is a delight.

7. Meow Meow

Singer: Vikram and Priya Hemesh

A perfect rhythm-based song, Meow Meow is sure to enter the lips of everyone instantly. Loaded with catchy rhythm, the song begins at slow pace only to gather momentum as it progresses.

‘Kanthaswamy’, in all, is a music album worth listening to thanks to Chiyaan's magic.

POKKISHAM movie review .........

POKKISHAM movie review .........

Film: "Pokkisham"
Cast: Cheran, Padmapriya, Ilavarasu, Vijay Kumar, Aryan Rajesh
Director: Cheran
Music Composer: Sabesh Murali

Mahesh (Aryan Rajesh), son of Lenin (Cheran), who passed away a few years ago, finds his father’s precious possession (his love letters). The letters reveal that Lenin (Cheran) was working in Kolkata Port in 1970s and that he was in deep love with Nadeera (Padmapriya), whom he met in a hospital.

The letters show the lives of the lovers. Nadhira, a literature student from Nagore, is impressed by Lenin’s helping tendency while Lenin likes her literary sense. After coming back to Kolkata, Lenin writes a letter to Nadhira and she replies it. They start writing letters and predictably, love blossoms.

Predictably again, the Muslim family is in no mood to accept a Hindu boy. Though they pretend to have accepted the proposal, the family makes trick to deceive Lenin. Finally the lovers are separated and Lenin could never meet Nadhira again till he dies.

Having known all these things through his father’s diaries and letters, Mahesh tries hard to trace Nadhira to handover the letters that remain unsent by his father. How he finds her and how she reacts to the whole thing form the climax.

There is no doubt that the basic premise of the movie is interesting. Apart from choosing a sensitive love story director Cheran has opted for a fabulous technical team to tell the story that travel past 39 years. The art director Vairabalan, who has marvelously recreated the Kolkata of 1970s and cinematographer Rajesh Yadav, who has beautifully captured the landscapes of Nagore, Kolkata and Chennai have added immence value to the movie.

The problem with the movie is the screenplay, which staggers from the word go. The narrative is very slow and redundant. But the pace alone is not a problem here. Slow movies by the legends life Sathyajith Ray and Aravindan (Malayalam) have excited us with their content and the way of telling. Pokkisham doesn’t have a good script to make us engaging.

Love developing through letters in a time where even telephone connections are a distant dream is fine. But that doesn’t give the allowance to the director to make the actors to go on writing and reading the letters for more than one hour. The scenes depicting the excitement of receiving the letter, pain of not receiving them are dull and clichéd. Going verbose about love doesn’t serve any purpose in making a good film.

Though Cheran has given scope to the music directors (Sabesh Murali) with a lot of space to give us soothing melodies, the duo has hopelessly failed to come out with impressive music. The song Nila…Nee Kadhal alone sounds good. The background score is loud and irrelevant in many places.

Cheran as an actor could not evoke any interest with his single dimensional acting. Padmapriya looks good and emotes well. Others including Vijayakumar, Ilavarsu, and Aryan Rajesh have done justice to their respective roles.

ACHCHAMUNDU......... movie review....

ACHCHAMUNDU ACHCHAMUNDU movie review....

Banner: Project East West
Cast: Prasanna, Sneha
Direction: Arun Vaidyanathan
Music: Karthik Raja
Rating: 3.5

Nothing explains the essence and emotion of the movie as much as one seemingly insignificant sentence that the flick’s lead lady Sneha mouths: She unsuspectingly refers to the man who is sexually attracted to her 6-year-child and says “He is old enough to be my father.”

An emotion so uncommon in India and among Indians that the NRI Sneha doesn’t suspect the man she invites to paint her home to be a pedophile.

Yes, you heard it right: child abuse, a theme we have so rarely seen in a Tamil film, despite India registering the highest number of such crimes in the world.

The most gripping thing about ‘Achchamundu! Achchamundu!’ is that it deals with a fear lurking in the country: not with ghosts or the supernatural kind, but a real, looming issue.

Everything seems picture perfect in Senthil (Prasanna)’s life, a gorgeous Malini (Sneha) and an adorable six year old Rithika. They’re living the ‘perfect’ life, like the kind that regularly goes on tours every weekend, attends obscure birthday parties and randomly visits temples and then, a jaded corner of a wall in the basement requires a good paint, and thus enters John Shea as the painter Robertson. Things are never the same at home again.

So when was the last time you saw a Tamil film explicitly deal with child abuse? And has it ever been taken as the central theme of a movie?

The film has been written and directed by NRI Arun Vaidyanathan, and just when you think the film is going to capture the essential Americanized life of Indians there, he gives you a slice of the Tamil way of living. Often, you wonder if the so naturally shot ramblings between the couple Prasanna and Sneha have been captured with a spy cam at an NRI couple’s home. Arun’s vignettes of how hard the NRI couple strive to live like other Indians is a treat to watch, definitely a first time in Tamil cinema.

It is to Arun’s credit that the film, with such a plausible storyline, has been executed completely by the three pivotal characters, Sneha, Prasanna and John Shea. A good few scenes have been devoted to establish the characters, and it instantly helps to connect with them. Sneha’s earlier reprisal of a similar role set in another paradigm, in ‘Pirivom Sandhippom’, has sure helped the actress get into the skin of the character easily. John Shea’s character has been intelligently scripted, and he breathes life into the film, despite being the villain.

Did Karthik Raja really inherit his dad Illayaraja’s cascading violins? The background score is one of the finest you would have heard in recent times, and you really wish he does more films. The songs, USA and Mithra, are well composed, but you get the feeling the second song though interestingly made, do not gel well in the first half. It is when it is continued in the latter half, that you think the movie’s mood fits it right. Lyricist Andal Priyadarshini, Sowmya and Karthik Raja ensure this is a song that’ll linger long after you’re out of the movie hall.

In fact, that’s something you’d feel about the film itself, with a topic that’s too significant to be forgotten after seeing the movie. The film will haunt you, wrench your guts, make you feel uneasy, and therein lies its success

Bottomline: A world class flick, dealing with an utterly local issue. Intelligent movie goers will not want to miss this one.

Aathi (Yuvan) leaves home and comes to Chennai seeking a career. He meets Gayathri (Madhu Sharma), a girl from a well-to-do family who wants to live life independently and do what she wants to do and not be questioned by her parents. Aathi’s innocence and good heartedness impresses Gayathri and she falls in love with him. They both get married but during their wedding night, she finds Aathi incapable of satisfying her sexual needs. The next day, she leaves him at a bus stop and asks him to part with her. Aathi pleads and tries to make her understand his love for her but she refuses to accept him into her life again. Aathi decides to leave his native and on the way he meets ‘Kadhal’ Thandapani. From then, his life takes a turn and the sequences that happen after that makes him a criminal.
Aathi finds Seenu (Bala) and Pazhani (Seshanth) shortly. All three of them finding it difficult to settle in a career decide to make their living by stealing. They become petty thieves. Their greed for money and lifestyle keeps growing and makes them plan for a bank robbery. They seek the help of two other school friends namely Shankar (Sabhi) and Hari (Nithish Kumar) who already are on the wanted list of the cops. The plan is executed and they escape from the bank with the money. When the cops are on their trail, they decide to take the money with them and leave the city. The money is given to Pazhani and he is asked to leave to Pondichery. They part ways mutually agreeing to meet together and share the loot among themselves in a couple of days. But things go haywire when one of them decides to have the money for himself.

Pazhani is killed on the way and the money is stolen. The rest of the story is all about who gets hold of the money and what happens to the others at last. Who was the ‘rat’? For the answer, you’ll have to check out the movie on the silver screen!

Final Verdict

Green Apple Picture’s Sinthanai Sei is entertaining and also belongs to the genre of Ram Gopal Varma’s movies like Sathya, Company and Shiva. Even though the movie has taken inspirations from Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs, Sriram Raghavan’s Johnny Gaddaar and various other crime thrillers, it deserves to be appreciated. Producers Amma Rajashekhar and Gilli Sekhar have made a commendable effort in bringing back the crime thriller to Tamil cinema. So, check out Sinthanai Sei this weekend!

MODHI VILAIYADU movie review....

Modhi Vilayadu - Movie Review

Banner Media One Global Entertainment
Producer Murali Manohar
Cast Vinay, Kajal Agarwal, Kalabhavan Mani, Santhanam, Cochin Hanifa and others
Director Saran
Music Hariharan and Leslie Lewis (Colonial Cousins)
Lyrics Vairamuthu

Modhi Vilayadu is the eleventh film by hit maker Saran, known from his stunning debut with Kadhal Mannan (1998), followed by super hit Amarkalam (1999), Parthen Rasithen (2000), Gemini (2002), Jay Jay (2003) and Vasool Raja MBBS (2004). Unlike his these movies, well-acclaimed for their depth of stories and liveliness of presentations, his latest Modhi Vilayadu, starring Vinay and Kajal Agarwal in the lead, is utter boring, full of unnecessary gimmicks and unimpressive in terms of acting and story.

The film begins with Rajan Vasudev (Kalabhavan Mani), a typical multi-millionaire and chairman of OPM companies, whose habit is to take over smaller companies by buying the majority of their shares, thus building his empire. In one such instance, Rajan Vasudev takes over a rapidly growing company and sacks its young chairman, who later hangs himself in a lift. Disturbed by this, the chairman's uncle decides to extract revenge and buys the services of a professional to kill Rajan Vasudev's only son Uday Vasudev (Vinay).

Uday Vasudev is a happy going youngster, always surrounded by his personal assistant Anand, security official Alse and other security guards. One day, when Uday is driving his Ferrari, a Pepsi can falls on his head, causing him to lose control and he rams his car into an electric post. Uday thinks I.R. Iswary (Kajal Agarwal) has thrown the can at him and demands a compensation of three lakhs for the damaged car. Iswary tries to convince him that it was an accident and refuses to pay the amount. But when Uday threatens her, saying he would complain to the police and her father, she agrees to pay the amount by serving as a maid in his house during her vacation. Initially, Iswary tries to lock horns with Uday in his house, but later falls in love with him.

In the meantime, the assassin has been observing Uday's activities and is waiting for the right time to fulfill his contract. Finally he gets a chance, but accidentally kills Anand instead of Uday. During the second half, it is revealed that Anand is the real son of Rajan Vasudev, not Uday! It is then that miseries fall upon Uday. How Uday faces the fact that he is an orphan and overcomes his troubles, including the life threat by the assassin, forms the rest of the film.

The major plus points of Modhi Vilayadu are its music, composed by the popular Colonial Cousins (Hariharan and Leslie Lewis) and cinematography. Modhi Vilayadu is the debut venture by the Colonial Cousins who have emphatically proved their musical mastery through the five songs in this flick. Cinematography of songs and sequences at foreign locations are impressive and worthy of praise.

The major drawback of the film is the lack of energy in the performance of actors. Vinay and Kajal Agarwal are good actors, but their performances in this flick do not create a sense of emotional involvement among the audience, perhaps because the majority of their combination scenes and romances seem to be quit artificial. Of course, they deliver dialogues and gesture, but the expected emotion is not conveyed at all. It has to be said that Vinay and Kajal Agarwal must specialize more on facial expressions. Kalabhavan Mani as a typical father and millionaire does not have much to perform, which also offers little scope for the villain! Unlike his other movies, comedian Santhanam is a disappointment.

Technically, the film is fine, but it is the basic script which brings down the show. The film terribly drags in the first half and even struggles to find a comfortable pace in its story narration. The makers could have concentrate more on how the story must develop than the costly things (luxurious furniture, cars, electronic products etc…) to be included in every frame.

In short, Modhi Vilayadu is just average and watch it if you are a fan of Vinay and Kajal Agarwal.
